Kolkata Knight Riders

The Knight Riders are owned by the Red Chillies Entertainment Company and were originally captained by Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly. However, Ganguly was replaced for the 2009 season by Kiwi, Brendan McCullum, which certainly caused friction between Ganguly and the then coach, John Buchanan. New signing Gautam Gambhir is the captain for the 2011 season.

IPL Performances

The team only managed sixth place in the 2008 IPL and failed to qualify for the knock-out stages. In the 2009 IPL they faired much worse, finishing bottom with only three wins from fourteen matches. They had a very inconsistent 2010, winning seven and losing seven of their 14 matches, which resulted in a sixth placed finish.

Squad

The Knight Riders made the two most expensive signings at the 2011 IPL Player Auction, purchasing Gautam Gambhir for $2.4m and Yusuf Pathan for $2.1m. They have a very strong batting line-up and will hope to pile on the runs throughout the course of the tournament.
