Deccan Chargers
The Deccan Chargers are owned by the Deccan Chronicle and they were crowned IPL winners in 2009 having beaten the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Final after finishing fourth in the league itself. They are led by the Sri Lankan wicket keeper Kumar Sangakkara, who recently stepped down as the skipper of his country's ODI and Twenty20 squads.
Performances
The Deccan Chargers finished last in the first IPL season in 2008 but bounced back to win the tournament in 2009, beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore by just 6 runs in a tense final.
In 2010 the Chargers were unable to play their home games at Hyderabad due to the ongoing political crisis in the area. They still managed to reach the semi-finals but it was there that their quest to retain their IPL trophy ended, losing to the eventual winners Chennai Super Kings.
Squad
At the 2011 IPL Player Auction the Chargers went in for a complete overhaul, signing the likes of Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Cameron White and Daniel Christian. They also signed the English batter Kevin Pietersen, however, hw will be unable to play because of a hernia.
